Most of us are familiar with the term 5k. This is a distance commonly used for various races, fun runs, or charity events. Measuring just over 3 miles, a 5k is an attainable distance but a good challenge for a timed walk.
Throughout the year, there are lots of opportunities in our area to walk as part of an organized 5k. Click here for suggestions on how to get ready for a 5k walk (or run).

Girls On The Run is a great organization that promotes physical activity for girls of abilities in a fun, encouraging, and supportive way. Although the after-school program is only open to girls grades 3-8, everyone can participate in their fundraising 5k events, which typically take place in May in our area.
